Though stuck at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we still managed to create prototypes out of paper to represent light fixtures inspired by a musical piece of our choice.
I chose The Sorcerer’s Apprentice by Paul Dukas. I focused on the melody and the different instruments in this piece to create my mood board. My mood board simplifies the piece into five different attributes that I could use to create the final product.
While re-listening to the piece, I painted five abstracts that represented the ups and downs of the song.
Finally, after multiple renditions, I settled on one that could be replicated through a paper substitute and something that captures the mood and emotions evoked through the chosen song.
