The first semester was spent learning the basics of architecture and design. Our final project was a culmination of all these skills we learned. We took our first project and recreated it in various ways.
I took the negative spaces of this cube and recreated it using brass sheets. I carefully cut out every strip and crafted light boxes that mimicked the void spaces.
The next model was a waffled model of the original. I had to figure out how to create the voids with slices of the cube. I also had to create slits so that the horizontal and vertical slices fit together neatly.
The final model was a culmination of both the void and positive spaces but in a more stylized form. The materials I used were bronze, tin, and black museum board. I used the skills I learned in the other two models to open up space while still maintaining the integrity of the shape. The voids were filled with both solid and horizontal metal that contrast the black outline of the cube.
