After viewing one of my previous artworks, I was asked to recreate it in a similar manner but unique to the person who commissioned this artwork.

In the summer of 2018 I created an artwork that seemed to constantly attract attention through the past few years. I recently got a commission to take the essence of this piece and create something new.

The prompt given to me was to paint an opinion about something controversial in the current media. The original painting is a criticism on a new wave of vegan and healthy eating. I saw many “diets” ignoring certain foods that were actually beneficial to the body, so I created this piece.

Her hair is made of lettuce and she chomps down on it in contempt while craving meat–as seen in her eye, where instead of a pupil there is a steak.

Craving. Ink, Acrylic. 16x20. 2018.

The new piece is simply a beautified version of this and takes the general look into consideration. It also shows the development of my skills and my comfort with one material over the other. The newer rendition is done with watercolor in an 11×14 frame.

A comparison between the 2020 v. 2018 version.
